Movie Marathon @ January

This month has been a complete movie month, I must have seen a record number of movies and documentaries all through January. And some of these have been very different like 'Exit through the Gift Shop', a documentary based on the life of Graffiti artists. Earlier, whenever I used to see graffiti on the walls through the train window, i never gave much thought to it, it was mere a sign or maybe just something which shouldn't have been there at all. But after watching the movie, my perspective towards it changed completely.

Now, whenever I see graffiti on walls, the first thing which comes to mind is - how the artist must have done it, what time it was painted and by whom. As the documentary itself, revolves around these artists, who do graffiti in the night time to save themselves from police and spend hours together in putting it up all night. And how these artists want to stay anonymous and are doing this just to bring their art to the public.

Besides this, a hindi movie 'Khosla ka Ghonsla', was a pleasant surprise; as i didn't expect the movie to be so realistic. It turned out to be a fabulous movie with a very fresh take on the issue of property, dealt by common people in Delhi. And the performance of all the actors in the movie is commendable too. Though I saw it very late since the time it was released, but I would still say that the movie is a must watch.

The list of movies I saw this month, also includes Dilemma, Yamla Pagla Deewana, Dil to Bacha hai ji (Today), Little Fockers and an enormous number of movies on Netflix.

By far, January has been the month of movies. And of-course, nothing beats a good movie and a bowl of popcorns in winters. Way to go....

Razzie Awards: Call for the Worst

Razzie Awards, also called Golden Raspberry Awards; calls for the worst performances of the year; just the opposite of regular award ceremonies. Well, even the worst deserves some recognition.

It was founded in 1981, by John J.B. Wilson and since then, the award ceremony happens a day before the Academy Awards. So, on one side you get to see the nomination for the Oscars and on the other for the Razzie. The awards have become pretty famous now and this year, the nominations are absolutely appropriate.

The worst Picture category has - 'The Bounty Hunter', so right, as there could be no one who wouldn't have dozed off in the middle of the movie just like me; 'Sex and the City 2', another crappy flick about fashion and clothes, thats it; 'The Last Airbender', no idea about this one; 'Vampires Suck', another movie, which in the first place didn't even have to be made; 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse', I still wonder how this series became so famous, theres not even a single reason.

Worst Actor - Jack Black for 'Gulliver's Travels', almost anyone else could have done the role better; Gerard Butler for ' The Bounty Hunter', I think he was a part of the movie, just because of his weird way of speaking; Ashton Kutcher for 'Killers' and 'Valentine's Day', seriously, I don't want to comment on anything regarding this; 'Taylor Lautner' for 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse' and 'Valentine's Day', he is still banking on his success of the Twilight series; Robert Pattinson for 'Remember Me' and 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse', am still wondering how and why everything related to this series became so famous.

Worst Actress - Jennifer Aniston for  'The Bounty Hunter' and 'The Switch', the first one was done just for the sake of getting over with it; 'Miley Cyrus' for 'The Last Song', well everyone needs to understand that end of the day she's a singer; Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cartell, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon for 'Sex and the City 2', as I mentioned earlier also, this movie was made only to show the designers collection in a different way rather than doing a fashion show on a ramp; Megan Fox for 'Jonah Hex', don't even know when this came; Kristen Stewart for 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse', am tired of saying the same thing, now people need to understand it on their own.

And the honors will be done on February 26th, 2011. Well, the judges will definitely have a hard time deciding the worst of all.

A big Applause for everyone who did their jobs well, well enough to deserve a Razzie.

Ophiuchus : The 13th Zodiac Sign

Ophiuchus, came in news recently - as the 13th zodiac sign and that brought in the question- Does my Zodiac sign change?

Well, after the news, a list also came out showing the new shifted dates for all the zodiac signs and that did change my sign. Yes, if we go by the new list, am no longer a Scorpion but a Virgo, thats crazy. So, a sign, which we have been following for many years, gets changed.

The new zodiac, Ophiuchus, Greek word which means 'serpent-bearer' and it will cover the dates between November 29 to December 17. And the character traits of this new sign are: Honest, intellectual, magnetic, prone to change and jealous. This sounds like a mix of character traits of some other signs.

Now, I wonder which sign I should look at while following the forecasts. Quite a dilemma, I must say.

The new Zodiac chart looks like this:
Capricorn: Jan 20 to Feb 16
Aquarius: Feb 16 to March 11
Pisces: March 11 to April 18
Aries: April 18 to May 13
Taurus: May 13 to June 21
Gemini: June 21 to July 20
Cancer: July 20 to Aug 10
Leo: Aug 10 to Sept 16
Virgo: Sept 16 to Oct 30
Libra: Oct 30 to Nov 23
Scorpio: Nov 23 to Nov 29
Ophiuchus: Nov 29 to Dec 17
Sagittarius: Dec 17 to Jan 20
Can be said, see what suits you !! We even have a choice in Zodiac signs now....

Beginning of a new year !!

The new year began with a visit to Bridgewater, a township in Somerset County over the weekend. We visited one of my husband's offices there, for a while and then went to Bridgewater Commons, which is the shopping mall. Had delicious Chipotle lunch and enjoyed the evening shopping. And came back home late due to sudden snow-shower that day.

                                                                          Bridgewater

And I have also seen an endless number of movies since the year began. Movies like Wuthering Heights, Curious case of Benjamin button, Anna and the King, The man in the Iron Mask - it was a complete re-run of old movies. And some awe-inspiring documentaries too, like Hiroshima: BBC World history of World war II, the famous 'March of the Penguins', a beautiful and heart-warming documentary about the life of empire Penguins who live in the harsh climate of Antarctica and 'Encounters at the end of the World', about the people and scientists living in Antarctica and the continent itself.

Another movie, 'No one killed Jessica' stole the show, this weekend. A brilliant movie, by any standards; as it again brings out to show the power of public opinion. The movie is about the 1999 Jessica Lall murder case and how the public opinion helped in putting the culprit behind the bars. A must watch.

By far, this year, started on a fabulous note and will be a happy one for sure. And it will also, be full of movies, as the first week itself tells the story.

Cheers to a new year !!
